Join us for a mini-symposium in honor of Prof. Lise Korsten’s honorary doctorate, focusing on resilience in nutrition and food security. Experts from Ghent University and beyond will share insights on the challenges and solutions shaping the future of food systems.

Programme:

  2. Empowering Minds

  3. Prof. Mieke Uyttendaele will discuss FBE’s commitment to bridging disparities in research and education.

  4. Strengthening Africa
  5. Prof. Lise Korsten will explore how both formal and informal food sectors can enhance resilience.

  6. Safe Foods for All
  7. Prof. Liesbeth Jacxsens will highlight how international food safety standards play a role in protecting consumers worldwide.

  8. From Crop to Co-op
  9. PhD researchers Wannes Slosse and Kennedy Mutuku will share perspectives on collaboration between Ghent University and African partners.

  10. Fresh Perspectives
  11. Students from the Master in Nutrition and Food Systems will provide their views on building inclusive and resilient food systems.

  12. From Hunger to Dignity
  13. Prof. D’Haese introduces the concept of ‘food agency,’ emphasizing the role of food choice and dignity in food security.

  14. Conclusions & closing

The symposium will conclude with reflections from Prof. Els Van Damme, Dean of the Faculty of Bio-Science Engineering, followed by a networking reception.
